Affirmative Action Plan for June, 2009-May, 2010

Reaffirmation of Policies Concerning Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action

The Board of Directors and Administrative Staff of the Early Learning Centers (ELC) reaffirm the agency’s equal employment opportunity and affirmative action policies
Equal Employment Opportunity Policy
ELC will not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment because of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, physical or mental disability, Vietnam Era or Special Disabled Veteran Status. ELC will take affirmative action to insure that applicants are employed without regard to their race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, physical or mental disability. Such action shall include but not be limited to the following: employment, upgrading, demotion, or transfer; recruitment or recruitment advertising; layoff or termination, rate of pay or other forms of compensation; and selection for training.

ELC will administer an affirmative action program with realistic, results oriented procedures, which will insure those conditions of recruitment, compensation, and advancement are consistent, fair and equitable for all persons. A commitment is hereby made to implement employment practices that will further the principles of the affirmative action program and ultimately of the employment process. Furthermore, all levels of supervisory personnel will be expected to assume the responsibility for carefully analyzing their respective employment practices to insure the agency’s compliance with the affirmative action program.

The Early Learning Centers benefits by having many individual volunteers and groups of volunteers provide services to the children attending our centers. If you are interested in volunteering please call Lena Scaff at 806-765-9981.

Some of our volunteers are:
Community Volunteers who serve as Board Members

Foster Grandparents, who volunteer 20 hours per week in the classrooms, working one on one with children who need extra attention
Texas Tech University Early Childhood students who conduct volunteer activities in the classrooms
Texas Tech University Jump Start Students who volunteer 10 to 15 hours per week, participating in one on one activities with children who need extra attention.
Various LISD and private school groups donate books, volunteer in the classrooms, and plan holiday events for the centers.
Trinity Schools have high school students who volunteer for 1 week each spring cleaning and working with the children.

Areas where we still need volunteers help:
Building Maintenance
painting classrooms
painting the outside of buildings
playground maintenance

Be positive and encouraging. Praise your child for a job well done. Smiles and encouragement go much further to shape good behavior than harsh punishment. –www2.ed.gov/parents
