“I wish coffee tasted different to me,” said a woman as she began her intervention at one of the regional dialogue tables established by the Colombian Truth Commission[1]. She was one of the more than 30,000 people caught up in Colombia’s armed conflict who participated in the dialogues. She shared how the first coffee of the day became bitter when she turned on the radio to listen to the morning news and how she had longed that one day coffee would recover the taste it had before her personal tragedy. That day, the coffee cup would be filled with hope instead of tears. Her words served as inspiration for this work.
The gesture captures the search for something different in repeating the same. It takes place in an unstoppable time in which we wait for life, and we try to heal and find closure with actions and dialogues. These are called “dialogues for non-repetition” because we know that cycles are also ephemeral, and because we hope that learning from the horrors of the past will commit us to not repeat them.

Materials play a pivotal role in my creative process as they connect traditional techniques with modern innovations. In this work, I explore the potential of relatively new materials such as plastics while reinventing the mutoscope. Plastics not only serve as structural elements, streamlining production for volumetric animation, but also contribute to my reflection on the theme. I'm particularly attentive to plastics’ luminous and mechanical properties but I also consider issues such as recycling and conservation. Animation embodies an understanding of time, pushing the boundaries of our visual perception to create new meanings and sensibilities. It is an art form uniquely suited to explore and express the nuances of temporality, offering insights and experiences that unravel the secrets of loops and spirals, inviting minds to ponder the mysteries of living with the simplicity of a flicker.
